The film this month is another classic: “The Odd Couple” (1968)
Neil Simon, who died on 26th August aged 91, was the most successful playwright in Broadway history. His third play, The Odd Couple opened on Broadway on 10th March 1965 and ran for 964 performances. It introduced two famous characters, Felix and Oscar, two men with failing marriages who move in together to save money and find that they have the same problems living with each other as they did with their wives.
The film version (running time 105 minutes) was released in 1968 and starred Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau. In the 1970s a television series based on the play and film was developed and ran for five seasons.
